Avast antivirus provides a full range of features packaged in a simple package. In my testing the malware engine got an outstanding score. Its web protection was also effective in identifying phishing sites which slipped through the default detectors of Chrome and Firefox systems. And its performance scanner was effective in keeping its impact on speed of the system to a minimum. Avast’s performance scanning was more effective than any other software in reducing the use of CPU.

Avast also offers a range of other tools. Avast One is the only one that has a VPN, photo vaults, and a tool to monitor data breaches. The security toolkit is quite extensive, with the ability to run programs in and a router security scanner to look for possible vulnerabilities.

Avast may claim that they has stopped selling data about its customers, but the history of this practice is present in a lot of people’s minds. In January 2020, PCMag and Motherboard revealed that Avast sold the location and other details of its users to third party companies via its Jumpshot subsidiary. Avast has halted this practice and requests users to sign up during the installation of its desktop antivirus software. Its privacy policy states that the data of consumers is “stripped and de-identified” before being shared with third parties.
